Kids Day in the Park
Saturday June 26th 2010 12 - 4pm
Whalen Park (Kanata Ave & Whalen)

Join us for Carnival Games, Races, Pony Rides, Face Painting, Clowns, Balloons, Air Bounce, Hot Dogs, Cold Drinks, and a Petting Zoo. Fun for the whole family!

This event is FREE to all KLCA members and their family / friends. If you are not a current member, memberships can be purchased on site for $10 and will cover your entire group.

Great Kanata North Yard Sale, May 30

If you live in Beaverbrook, Briarbrook and Morgans’s Grant, Kanata Lakes, or the Village Green and have some items you would like to sell, plan on joining your neighbours on Saturday, May 30 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for the Great Kanata North Yard Sale.

The size and diversity of this event will undoubtedly attract potential purchasers and, who knows, you might be tempted to see what is available. The event will be advertised or announced across the city.

It so happens that the "Yard Sale for the Cure" in support of breast cancer research is being held that same day. If participants of the Kanata North event wish to donate a proportion of their proceeds to that cause they should go to www.yardsaleforthecure.com for further information.

Finally, the City is promoting "GiveAway Day." the following weekend. So, if you have
treasures that didn’t sell, you can give them away at that time.
By participating, not only will you gain some income you will be helping the environment by finding new uses for old treasures that might have ended up in the garbage.

KLCA - General Meeting 2009

The Kanata Lakes Community Association is holding its first General Meeting of the new year on Wednesday,January 21 at 7:30p.m, in SS#1 Community Centre located on Goldridge Drive, West of Kanata Avenue.

Representatives of Tega Homes will present their plans for infill development of the property located on the south side of Kanata Avenue, west of Goulbourn Forced Road. All Saints Catholic High School is located to the east opposite the recreational pathway. Tega proposesthe development of 22 new luxury freehold town homes, on four blocks with access to Kanata Avenue via a private road. One of the four blocks is proposed as recreational open space.

Councillor Wilkinson will bring us up-to-date on City matters and executive members will be reporting on their areas of responsibility.

We extend a warm welcome to new residents of our community and urge their participation in our association, which is run entirely by volunteers, by taking out a membership ($10 per household).

Chris and Jessica Fitzhardy of Sherring Crescent were the winners of our Christmas Lights display contest with a dazzling display that captured the "spirit" of the season. They received a Chinese tea serving set. Congratulations Chris and Jessica!

KLCA – General Meeting/Executive Elections

The Kanata Lakes Community Association annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday November 26th, 2008 at 7:30pm in SS#1 Community Centre on Goldridge Drive (aside the park). Foremost on the agenda is the election of the executive for 2008/2009 . If you want to have a voice in your own community and put your ideas into action, it is still not too late to put your name forward for election. Nominations for all KLCA Executive positions are open and will be accepted up to and at the AGM. During the AGM, a motion to close nominations will be made and when approved by the membership, the elections will proceed. If you are interested in any position, simply e-mail secretary@klca.ca or indicate your interest at the beginning of the meeting.

Also on the agenda, Councillor Wilkinson's update on city matters e.g. Outdoor rink funding and other budget considerations and executive reports.

Community building - We are still waiting a reply from the city solicitor on the commitment made by Campeau to building a community centre with parking and services, and the disposition of the "security in the amount of $200K required to ensure its completion."

The 2008 / 2009 Membership Drive has been off to a slow start this year. Street Reps will be receiving their packages soon and will be visiting prior to the end of the year. We still have a shortage of street reps so if you don’t see anyone; please print the membership form on this website and mail it in with your payment.The KLCA will once again be looking for the home with the best Christmas lights display in our community. Members of the executive will tour the community and a decision will be made on Decemeber 19th. Nominations can be sent to info@klca.ca .Our popular community event “Kids Day in the Park” (KDIP), will be returning to Whalen Park in June with rides, games, music, food and loads of fun. More to follow - stay tuned.We urge all Kanata Lakes residents to attend this important meeting in order to be more informed about events taking place in your community.

KLCA – EXECUTIVE ELECTIONS
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Kanata Lakes Community Association (KLCA) is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Sep 17^th, at SS#1 (off Goldridge Drive). The agenda includes a Councilor’s report from Marianne Wilkinson, the election of a new Executive and several topics of vital interest to Kanata Lakes residents. You are encouraged to attend, take part in the discussions and to vote for you new Executive.
Below, you will find the full agenda and the current slate of candidates for KLCA Executive positions (several of which are still vacant). The annual membership drive is about to get underway – expect a knock on your door. The KLCA is run entirely by dedicated volunteers giving freely of their spare time. If you are a resident of Kanata Lakes, you are urged to participate in your Community Association by taking out a membership. Visit our website at www.klca.ca for information on becoming a member. The cost is minimal - $10.00/household. After you become a member take the next step and come out to our general meetings and stay informed about what is happening in your community. South March Highlands Natural Environment Assessment

South March Highlands Conservation Forest, Kanata,
Ottawa, Ontario

Clarrie Frankton first discovered the extraordinary biodiversity of the South March Highlands in the 1960s and in association with his wife Enid Frankton, continued to explore and document its natural features for over 30 years. Their expertly collected and identified scientific plant specimens provided the factual basis for the initial designation of the Trillium Woods as an area of particular natural environment significance. Indeed, virtually all of the upland portions of the present South March Highlands Conservation Forest were first identified as having exceptional ecological values by the Franktons. Simply put, there would be no Conservation Forest without the long-term, science-based, factual foundation provided by his contribution.

KLCA Position on Goulbourn Forced Road alignment with All Saints Catholic High School

The Kanata Lakes Community Association perceives substantial safety and traffic congestion issues that have not yet been satisfactorily resolved within the context of the GFR Environmental Assessment and the expected resulting future plans. GFR is expected to become very busy with more than 10,000 adjacent new dwellings coming on line, even if Terry Fox Drive is extended.
